LSUE Men's Soccer Falls In Gulf South Semifinals

TYLER, Texas – LSU Eunice Men's Soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to Tyler Junior College in the NJCAA Gulf South District Tournament on Wednesday.  The Bengals (13-2-1) reached the semifinal round of the district tournament every year of their six-year program existence.

Tyler was about to get out in front early on as the Apaches capitalized on a faulty clearance, scoring in the 7th minute of the game.

The Bengals' best opportunity to tie would come in the 31st minute as Yvan-Noel Muenyi (Baton Rouge, LA, Baton Rouge Magnet HS) forced a turnover by TJC's backline.  Muenyi would catch Derick Bernard (Houston, TX, Atascocita HS) in stride who would have a one-on-one opportunity with the Tyler goalkeeper, pushing his shot just wide to the far side.

The two sides were virtually even on offensive numbers, each tallying 14 shots while TJC won the corner kick battle 5-3.

The Apaches would finally put the game to rest in the 86th minute, pouncing on a counterattack with LSUE pushed up on the offensive end.  Zachary Clary (Pensacola, FL, Tate HS) would record eight saves, going the full 90 minutes for LSU Eunice.  A physical game from the start, Tyler JC was handed 13 fouls to LSUE's 2.

The Bengals now wait for the NJCAA National Tournament Selection on Tuesday, November 7 to find out if they are one of four at-large berths for the 12-team tournament in Wichita, Kansas on November 12-18.
