LSUE Women Drops Season Opener To Jacksonville

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer suffered a 3-0 setback to open the 2023 regular season as the Bengals fell to Jacksonville College at home on Monday.  It was the first game for the Bengals under first year head coach Courtney Murdoch.

The Jaguars were able to strike quickly, scoring a goal in the first three minutes of the contest. Jacksonville was able to knife through the Bengals' back line, beating the LSUE goalkeeper one-on-one.

Anais Coyne (Mansfield, TX, Mansfield Legacy HS) would hold her own against the Jaguars to keep LSUE in the game during the first half.  The freshman goalkeeper made several saves before intermission as Jacksonville deployed a steady offensive attack.

The Bengals would eventually relinquish another goal as Jacksonville used a similar formula, striking in the early moments of the second half.  A ball served right in the middle of the box gave the Jaguars another point blank shot, making it 2-0 in the 47th minute.

LSUE would not go down easy as the Bengals would attempt to rally after the Jaguars were handed a red card midway through the second half.  The Bengals would flood the offensive box but could not piece together the final touch to get back into the contest.  The Jaguars would add an insurance goal in the 87th minute off a failed LSUE clearance.

The Bengals hit the road this weekend for a doubleheader in Atlanta, Georgia.  LSUE faces off with USC Lancaster on Friday, followed a Saturday matchup with Spartanburg Methodist College.  Both games will be played at Silverbacks Park.
