EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer continues to catch fire down the home stretch of the regular season as the Bengals knocked off Cisco College 2-0 on Friday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. The Bengals (4-4-1) notched their second shutout of the season as LSUE takes a three-game win streak into the final month of the season.
The Bengals would control for most of the match but were not able to get that final connection for a goal. LSUE's depth would finally outpace the Wranglers in the final 30 minutes of the match.
Olivia Stanford (Lafayette, LA, Comeaux HS) caused a turnover on the LSUE side of midfield and received the ball back after a quick touch by
Ila Nicholson (Beaumont, TX, Hamshire Fannett HS). Stanford would outrace two Cisco defenders, taking the ball from the half line and bury a left footed shot that would rip cord on the far side. Her 62nd minute goal was her third of the campaign.
Gisell Lupita Jimenez Rodriguez (Cali, Colombia, Colegio Santa Isabel de Hungria) provided an insurance goal in the 74th with a highlight reel volley. The sophomore smashed a ricochet from a Bengal corner kick near the top of the box, her fourth goal of the season.
Anais Coyne (Mansfield, TX, Mansfield Legacy HS) preserved her first collegiate clean sheet, collecting four saves including an impressive one-on-one stop early in the first half.
LSU Eunice closes out the regular season with a three-game road trip beginning Saturday, October 14 against St. Louis Community College. The match will be played in Memphis, Tennessee.
