EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer will head to Oklahoma this weekend to participate in the South District Tournament vying for a berth in the upcoming NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Tournament. The Bengals (8-2) are the three-seed in the six-team single elimination field with all action being played at the Advance Soccer Complex in Enid.
LSUE draws Eastern Oklahoma State College in the quarterfinals and will play the Mountaineers at 3:00PM on Thursday, October 31. This will be the second all-time meeting between the schools. LSUE won the first meeting 1-0 in overtime back in 2021.
The Bengals are led offensively by freshman
Gabby Stone (Sydney, Australia, Moriah College), who has produced 10 goals and one assist. The Australian import is just the second LSUE player to record double digit goals in the program's seven-year history, joining Lucia Lorenzo-Parga and her 11 goals in 2022.
The goalkeeping duties have been split by
Anais Coyne (Mansfield, TX, Mansfield Legacy HS) and
Hannah May (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS). The duo has combined for 60 saves and 0.90 goals against average with six clean sheets.
Eastern Oklahoma enters the postseason with a 6-8-2 record, finishing fifth in the Region 2 standings. Dahlia Whyte is the top goal scorer with seven this season while Merel Vleemink has started all 15 games in goal, saving 69 shots and sporting a 2.31 goals against average.
The winner of the Bengals and Mountaineers will take on two-seed Rose State College on Friday at 3:00PM in the semifinal round. Seminole State is the top seeded team in the field and will face the winner of Thursday's quarterfinal featuring Northern Oklahoma College-Enid and Murray State College.
The championship is set for Saturday, November 2 at 1:00PM but could be pushed to Sunday if one of the quarterfinal teams reaches the finals.
