LSUE Women Split Opening Weekend On Road

BARNESVILLE, Ga. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer showed the building blocks of a promising 2024 campaign as the Bengals split a pair of games in Georgia to begin the campaign.  The Bengals (1-1) start the year on a nine-game road trip.

LSUE opened the season in style with a commanding 5-0 victory over Gordon State before an early deficit dealt the Bengals a 2-1 setback to USC Lancaster.

The Bengals will have back-to-back weekends in Texas, beginning Thursday, August 29 against Dallas College Richland starting at 7:00PM.  LSUE turns around to face Dallas College North Lake on Friday at 11:00AM.

Aug. 24 vs. Gordon State College – W, 5-0
LSU Eunice began and ended its season opener with a flourish, taking a 5-0 victory over Gordon State.  It was the largest margin of victory in a season opener in program history.

Gabby Stone (Sydney, Australia, Moriah College) provided the bulk of the offense, netting a hat trick in her first collegiate game.  Stone buried a 13th minute corner from a feed from Nova Eskelinen and added her second goal ten minutes later by an assist from Luna Kristiina Kullas (Copenhagen, Denmark, Gefion Gymnasium).  LSUE would take that 2-0 lead into intermission.

Stone padded the lead to 4-0 in the 77th minute, burying another cross into the box from Kullas.

Caroline Fielding (Covington, LA, Mandeville HS) began the second half scoring with a 60th minute tally, rifling a long shot that tucked into the upper corner.  Anllely Fuentes (Ocaña-Norte de Santander, Colombia, Francisco Fernandez de Contreras) put an exclamation on the match with an 86th minute long range shot.

Anais Coyne (Mansfield, TX, Mansfield Legacy HS) notched the clean sheet, going the distance with a pair of saves.

Aug. 25 vs. USC Lancaster – L, 1-2
The Bengals spotted USC Lancaster an early lead and furious rally could not overcome the deficit as LSUE fell 2-1 to close out the weekend in Georgia.

The Lancers struck for goals to start both halves, tallying in the 8th and 54th minutes.

LSUE would try to come back as Emily Poste (Copperas Cove, TX, Copperas Cove HS) poked one in the back of the net off a Luna Kristiina Kullas cross to cut the lead in half.  The Bengals would stay on the offensive, having several offensive opportunities fall short including a dangerous free kick near the top of the box.

Anais Coyne grabbed eight saves in net for LSU Eunice.
