Eunice, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer used more of its late game theatrics to take a 1-0 decision over No. 20 Ranger College on Sunday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. The victory was the Bengals' (8-4-4) first win over an NJCAA ranked opponent this season.
Lily Whitefoot (Wrexham, Wales, Darland HS) netted the game winner as the Bengals capitalized on a bad clearance from the Rangers.
Ava Lambert (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) corralled a clearance attempt by the Ranger goalkeeper, finding Whitefoot near the top of the 18-yard box. Whitefoot buried a low liner past the keeper in the 77th minute to set off a celebration on the LSUE sideline.
The game winner was one of the few offensive chances LSUE would have during the afternoon, managing seven shots on goal, five coming in the second half.
Catherine Beckman (Walker, LA, Walker HS) fended off a steady offensive assault by the Rangers, collecting 16 saves in the clean sheet for the freshman.
The Bengals wrapped up the home portion of the regular season in impressive fashion, finishing the year 5-1 on the Cajun Prairie. LSUE will close out the season on Friday with a road date at No. 17 Angelina and then turn its attention to the Region 14/23 Tournament next week.
