EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer begins its postseason push on Tuesday with a first-round date at Trinity Valley CC. The Bengals (8-5-4 overall record) and Cardinals kick off in Athens, Texas at 3:30PM.
LSUE is one of eight teams to qualify for the Region 14/23 Tournament in the single-elimination bracket. The winner of the tournament will take on the Region 5 winner in the South Central District Championship with an automatic berth into the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Tournament at stake.
The Bengals finished third in the South Division of Region 14 after playing as scheduling partner in the region this season. LSUE went 5-5-2 in conference play, tying Trinity Valley CC 3-3 on the road earlier this season in their lone matchup during the fall.
Other first round games include Blinn College hosting Tyler Junior College, Navarro College entertaining Texas Southmost College, and Northeast Texas Community College traveling to Angelina College. The winner of the LSUE and Trinity Valley CC contest will take on winner of Angelina College and Northeast Texas Community College.
The Bengals feature a balanced attack with four players scoring more than five goals this season, led by sophomore forward
Lily Whitefoot's (Wrexham, Wales, Darland HS) seven goals.
Emily Poste (Copperas Cove, TX, Copperas Cove HS) paces the team in assists (8) and points (20).
Catherine Beckman (Walker, LA, Walker HS) sports a .871 save percentage starting all 16 games in net for LSUE. Beckman has recorded five shutouts this season with a 1.29 goals against average.
The Cardinals enter the postseason ranked 9th in the nation with an 8-1-7 record. Four different players have four goals a piece to lead TVCC offensively while freshman midfielder Kate Garrett's 14 points (3 goals and 8 assists) leads the team in that category.
Gio Brandao and Nikia van Middendorp have split time in net for Trinity Valley combining for a .812 save percentage and 0.81 goals against average.
