Bengals Take No. 9 TVCC To Limit, Fall In PKs

ATHENS, Tx. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer turned in its best performance of the year before suffering a heartbreaking loss to Trinity Valley in penalty kicks in the first round of the Region 14/23 Tournament on Tuesday.  The Bengals (8-5-5) earned a 0-0 draw with the Cardinals before falling 4-2 in penalty kicks.

The Bengals had several offensive opportunities in regulation, most notably a loose ball opportunity in the 18-yard box that LSUE got three shots off.  Lily Whitefoot (Wrexham, Wales, Darland HS) led the team with four shots as the Bengals forced TVCC to make 10 saves in the contest.

Catherine Beckman (Walker, LA, Walker HS) also turned in a strong performance in goal, tallying ten saves of her own.

Both teams would connect on their first attempt in penalty kicks, with the Cardinals gaining a temporary advantage after LSUE missed its second try.  TVCC would hit the cross bar in the third round before the Bengals third attempt was also off the mark.  Trinity Valley would make its final two kicks to take the best-of-five round.

The Bengals finished the campaign with a second straight winning season under Courtney Murdoch.
