EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer started and ended its home opener with an offensive flurry to cap off a 6-1 victory over Paris JC on Thursday at the Bengal Soccer Complex. LSU Eunice (2-0-1) played the first of 12 conference games against Region 14 competition, joining the Texas-based league as a scheduling partner.
The Bengals would get in the scoring ledger in the first moments of the afternoon matchup with
Greta Bailey (Perth, Australia, St. Mary's Anglican Girls School) punching in a goal in the third minute. She would be the recipient of a beautiful through ball in the 18-yard box by
Emily Poste (Copperas Cove, TX, Copperas Cove HS), giving Bailey a one-on-one opportunity with the Paris goalkeeper.
Joselin Gonzalez (Houston, TX, MacArthur HS) added to the LSUE tally in the 31st minute, punching home a free ball rebound off a shot from
Lucie Quivron (Rennes, France, Lycee Brequigny) to help the Bengals take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The two teams would go on a scoring frenzy in the first five minutes as a Paris JC goal was sandwiched between two more Bengal tallies. Emily Poste and
Chloe Gomez (Nederland, TX, Nederland HS) would trade off helping each other score, Poste finishing with a laser in the box followed by Gomez's first collegiate goal.
The Bengals finished the game on a strong note, added two late goals.
Luna Kristiina Kullas (Copenhagen, Denmark, Gefion Gymnasium) buried a long ball to the back post in the 63rd minute, while Lucie Quivron capped the scoring in the 87th minute with a putback from a deflection of a Bailey shot.
Catherine Beckman (Walker, LA, Walker HS) was strong in net, collecting eight saves in the victory.
LSUE continues action on Sunday with a afternoon matchup against Northeast Texas CC starting at 5:30PM.
