EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball sophomore
Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) has been named the NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week for March 23-29, the NJCAA national office announced on Wednesday. Spangler is the first LSUE student-athlete to receive national honors this year.
The LSU Eunice pitcher is the first baseball student-athlete to be given the honor since Jaxon Landreneau was named Player of the Week last season, and he's the first pitcher to grab the national award since Conor Benge during the 2023 campaign.
Spangler turned in his best performance as a Bengal during LSUE's 5-0 win over Baton Rouge CC on Friday, March 27 to open LCCAC play. The sophomore struck out a career-high 11 batters in the 7.2 innings pitched, scattering five hits while not issuing a free pass against the Bears. He sat down the side in order the first three innings of the game, striking out each batter in the third inning.
Spangler is tied for the team lead with 51 strikeouts on the season – ranked Top 40 nationally in the NJCAA - to go with a 5-1 record and 4.63 earned run average.
LSU Eunice is on the road this weekend with another LCCAC series. The Bengals invade New Orleans beginning Thursday, April 2 to face off with Delgado. The first game of the four-game series begins at 6:00PM from Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
