Box Score MERIDIAN, MS. -- LSU Eunice went 2-1 in the opening day of the MCC Rush Invitational. The top-ranked Lady Bengals fell to #5 Mississippi Gulf Coast 0-1 and beat Copiah-Lincoln 13-1 and Faulkner State 9-5.
Game 1: LSUE 9, Faulkner State 5
LSU Eunice used a 6-run fifth inning to come from behind and win 9-5. LSUE was down 2-1 going into the fifth inning.
Jeannemarie Angelle (Cecilia HS) started off the sixth inning with a home run, and
Molly Wilson (Castor HS) hit a grand slam home run that Bishop, Skains, and Malancon.
LSUE added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, and Faulkner attempted comeback failed when the Lady Bengals held the Lady Sun Chief to three runs.
Wilson finished 4-for-4 with 6 RBIs, and two runs and Angelle went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and one run.
Elizabeth Fontenot (Port Barre HS) picked up the win, and
Hannah Vidallier (North Vermillion HS) earned a save.
Game 2: LSUE 0, Mississippi Gulf Coast 1
A lone home run by Gulf Coast's Lexie Mathis in the first inning was the only score in the game. LSUE managed eight hits in the game and left seven on base in the loss.
The Lady Bengals had beaten the fifth-ranked Lady Bulldogs twice earlier in the week.
Bishop (Newton County HS) finished 3-for-3, and
Bobbi Smith (West Ouachita HS) was 2-for-3.
Savanna Cates (Hargrave HS) suffered the loss. She pitched six innings and struck out three batters.
Game 3: LSUE 13, Co-Lin 1
Angelle had two home runs and double to drive in six RBIs in the Lady Bengals' 13-1 win over Co-Lin.
In the bottom of the second inning, Angelle's first home run gave LSUE a 2-0 lead. Angelle then doubled in the third inning, driving in three runs and pushing LSUE's lead to 6.
In the fourth inning, Malancon, Wilson both drove in runs and in the fifth inning, Angelle's final home run gave the Lady Bengals a 10-1 lead.
Maleah Saucedo (Orangefield HS) and
Ally Howard (Live Oak HS) each drove in run in the fifth to give LSUE the 13-1 win.
Angelle finished 3-for-3 with six RBIs and two runs. Henderson was 2-for-2 with two runs. Malancon was 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored. Ally Howard and Molly Wilson each had a pair of RBIs.
Vidallier earned the win on the mound for the Lady Bengals. She pitched five inning and struck out 2 batters.
