Bengals Struggle In Doubleheader Sweep At Jones County

ELLISVILLE, Ms. – The highly anticipated rematch of the 2017 NJCAA National Championship Game did not live up to its billing as No. 1 LSU Eunice endured a doubleheader sweep at the hands of No. 2 Jones County.  The Bengals fall in run-rule fashion in both games, 13-3 and 14-6.
 
LSUE committed 11 errors over the two games with nearly half (14 of 27) of the Bobcats' runs coming unearned.
 
LSU Eunice (5-7) will look to rebound tomorrow with three games at the Wildcat Invitational.  The Bengals open up play with Mississippi Gulf Coast at 11:00AM.  East Mississippi follows at 3:00PM with LSUE tangling with host-Pearl River at 7:00PM to close out the one-day tournament.  The schedule was effected by expected rain in the Gulf Coast region on Saturday.
 
GAME ONE
 
Jones County used a six-run fourth inning to power past LSU Eunice in the twinbill opener, 13-3 in five innings. 
 
McKennah Sikes led the Jones County charge with 4 RBIs on the game including a two-run home run.
 
Robinson started the scoring barrage with a solo home run in the first inning.  The Bobcats followed that up with four more runs in the second highlighted by Murray two-RBI double.
 
The Bengals showed life in the fourth inning with three runs including Mima Doucet's two-RBI double to make it a 7-3 ballgame.  Jones County swiftly answered with a six-run inning to push the lead to double digits.
 
LSU Eunice managed just two hits off the pitching combination of Karli Perque and Hallie Donald.  Heather Zumo suffered her third loss of the season after lasting three inning giving up seven runs on four hits and two walks.  The LSUE defense did not help Zumo committing five errors.
 
GAME TWO
 
The Bengals did not allow Jones County to follow the same script in the night camp from Community Bank Park.  LSU Eunice turned an early deficit to a one run lead with a six-run third inning.

LSUE's roller coaster ride continued giving up seven unanswered runs as the Bengals dropped the nightcap, 12-6.
 
The Bobcats knocked a pair of home runs in the first inning to take early control. 
 
Mima Doucet answered back with a three-run blast to cut the Bengals deficit to 5-3.  Ally Howard followed that up with a two-run home run of her own while Emily Henderson capped off the scoring with a RBI double.
 
LSU Eunice couldn't sustain the lead as Jones County answered with four runs in the bottom half of the third inning all with two outs.  The Bobcats plated three more two out runs in the fourth and walked off in the sixth with two more runs.
