Bengals Use Late Goal To Grab Win vs. Gordon State

Box Score

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Samaris Alvarado (Houston, TX, Klein Forest HS) netted a late goal to help LSU Eunice take down Gordon State, 1-0, at Ashton Brosnaham Park on Saturday.  The shutout was the Bengals' (3-0-1) second of the season.

Alvarado cashed in on a 30-yard free kick in the 87th minute to break a scoreless gridlock.  The freshman went near side on a long volley to deliver the game winning goal.

The Bengals were able to score after dominating on the offensive end, outshooting Gordon State 22-1 with 14 shots on goal.  Alvarado led LSUE's offensive effort with six shots, including four on target.

LSUE used another stingy defensive effort to allow just one shot in the game and two corner kicks.  Mariah Scott (San Antonio, TX, Legacy of Educational Excellence HS) saved the only shot on target for the Highlanders.

The Bengals return home on Saturday for a doubleheader with NJCAA newcomer Arkansas-Rich Mountain.  The action from the Bengal Soccer Complex starts with the women's game at 5:00PM.  The game will be live streamed on Bengal All-Access.
