LSUE Women Draw Rose State In District Tournament

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Soccer will kick off its postseason on Thursday at 11:30AM against Rose State College in the South District Tournament.  The six-team single elimination tournament will be held at the Advance Soccer Complex in Enid, Oklahoma.

The Bengals are the five-seed after going 5-5-2 in the regular season.  It will be LSUE's first postseason paired with Region 2 after the NJCAA redrew the women's soccer districts this past spring.  Region 2 is comprised of teams from Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The winner of Thursday's first round game will face top-seed and national number two Seminole State on Friday.  The other side of the bracket includes two-seed Murray State, three-seed Eastern Oklahoma State and six-seed NOC-Enid.  The bracket winners will meet in the Championship game on Saturday unless a team that played Thursday reaches the final.  The Championship would then be moved to Sunday at 1:00PM.

Rose State went 9-5-3 in the regular season to finish fourth in the Region 2 standings.  They are led offensively by sophomore Chloi Thurman who has 13 goals and 12 assists on the season.  She ranks 22nd nationally in goals and 8th in assists.  The Raiders' goalkeeper is freshman Viola Schafter who sports a 1.97 goals against average with 93 saves on the season.

The Bengals are led on the offensive end by Sadie Bourgeois (Saint Amant, LA, Saint Amant HS) and her six goals this season.  Gisell Lupita Jimenez Rodriguez (Cali, Colombia, Colegio Santa Isabel de Hungria) and Olivia Stanford (Lafayette, LA, Comeaux HS) are tied for second on the team with four a piece.  Anais Coyne (Mansfield, TX, Mansfield Legacy HS) and Hannah May (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) have split duties in net this year for LSUE, combining for a 2.00 goals against average and 74 saves.

The winner of the South District Tournament will receive an automatic berth into the 2023 NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Tournament on November 12-18 at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas.

All South District Tournament games will be streamed live by Eastern Oklahoma State with a link provided on www.lsuebengals.net.
