The Bengals welcome Angelina College to Eunice for a doubleheader on Monday starting at 2:00PM.
Game 1 vs. Bossier Parish CC – L, 2-11
LSU Eunice had no answer for a hot Bossier Parish offense as the Bengals fell 11-2 to open action in Crowley.
After giving up two runs in the first and trailing 3-0 in the bottom half of the third, LSUE would fight back with a pair of runs.
Madison Prejean (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS) would double home
Maci Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) and
Mari Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) to trim the deficit to 3-2.
BPCC would catch fire, scoring eight unanswered, capitalizing on four LSUE errors.
Game 2 vs. Jones College – W, 3-2
Maci Baldwin drove home
Sara Roussel (Luling, LA, Hahnville HS) to provide a dramatic 3-2 walk-off win over Jones College to conclude the action in Crowley. It's the latest chapter in one of the best rivalries in junior college softball.
The last time LSUE walked off on Jones was the 2017 NJCAA National Championship game.
Chloe Bennett (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) continued terrific start to the spring with another complete game jewel. The sophomore struck out 12 batters on the night and did not surrender her first hit until the third inning. That single saw a highlight worthy defensive play by Sara Roussel as the centerfielder threw out a Bobcat runner trying to score.
Bennett scattered just four hits and three walks while giving up two unearned runs to improve to 7-0 on the season. The Bengals' ace leads the country in both wins and strikeouts (66).
LSUE got some early offense thanks to a
Maddie Chretien (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) sacrifice fly in the second and an
Abby Touchet (Shreveport, LA, C.E. Byrd HS) RBI double an inning later.
After Jones would tie the game by scoring two runs on a two out error in the sixth, it would set the stage for another dramatic walk-off for the Bengals against the Bobcats. Sara Roussel led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and would advance to second off a Mari Baldwin sacrifice. Maci Baldwin would lace a line drive to left center and allow Roussel to score the game winner.
Baldwin and Chretien were the two Bengals to record multi-hit in LSUE's 8-hit output.
