Box Score 2 BRENHAM, Texas – LSU Eunice Softball suffered two heartbreaking losses at the hands of Blinn College on Saturday. The Bengals (27-12) began the start of a 12-game road trip with the contests in Texas.
LSUE gave up a walk-off three-run home run as the Bengals suffered a 6-5 loss to open the day and then fell 3-0 in the finale.
The Bengals aim to rebound on Monday as LSUE travels up north to Bossier Parish CC.
Game 1 vs. Blinn College – L, 5-6
LSU Eunice could not hold on to a late lead as Blinn upset the Bengals 6-5 to start the day's doubleheader.
The Bengals took a 5-3 lead into the final frame as LSUE used a three-run fifth inning to hold of the game.
Sara Roussel (Luling, LA, Hahnville HS) provided the big hit in that critical inning with a two-run triple to temporarily separate themselves from the Bucs.
Blinn would respond in a big way in the seventh as a three-run home run allowed the Bucs to walk off.
The loss spoiled a historic game for
Chloe Bennett (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS). The sophomore ace struck out nine batters and surpassed Raven Cole's career strikeout mark at LSUE. Bennett set the single season record a season with 240 punchouts and now has 425 in her LSUE tenure. Cole's record was 421 set during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Game 2 vs. Blinn College – L, 0-3
The Bengals could not get their offense going as Blinn College delivered 3-0 setback.
LSUE outhit Blinn College 4-3 but two errors were costly as a two-run home run in the second inning and a sixth inning RBI were the only offense the Bucs could get across.
The Bengals had an opportunity in the second inning with back-to-back singles to start the inning but would go down in order to squash the threat.
LSUE would get another chance in the seventh, leaving the bases loaded as a two-out groundout would end the game.
