Box Score 2 HOUSTON, TX – LSU Eunice Softball saw its offense come alive in the final four innings of its doubleheader against San Jacinto College, splitting its road doubleheader on Thursday. The Bengals (29-16) will continue their Texas road swing this weekend with a Saturday doubleheader at Alvin CC.
LSU Eunice could not find an answer for San Jacinto pitching early, falling 2-0 in the opening game. The Bengals would answer with authority, scoring 10 unanswered runs to take a 16-10 decision to close the day.
Game 1 vs. San Jacinto College – L, 0-2
A classic pitching duel did not end up in LSU Eunice Softball's favor as the Bengals dropped their opener to San Jacinto College, 2-0. Both teams only notched a single hit in the low scoring game.
After back-to-back walks to lead off the fourth inning, San Jacinto used a ground out and its only hit to score the two runs of the game.
LSUE had an opportunity to score in the second inning as a one out walk and
Madison Prejean (Lafayette, LA, St. Thomas More HS) single put a pair of runners on for the Bengals. LSUE could not bring home a run as a sacrifice bunt and fly out ended the threat.
The Bengals would get solid efforts in the circle from the trio of
Emma Shepherd (Athens, LA, Claiborne Academy),
Landri Campbell (Olla, LA, LaSalle HS) and
Chloe Bennett (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS).
Game 2 vs. San Jacinto College – W, 16-10
Maddie Chretien (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) lifted a grand slam in the sixth inning to help spark LSU Eunice's offense as the Bengals rallied for a 16-10 win to close out the doubleheader.
Chretien's second home run of the season gave LSUE its first lead of the day, pushing the Bengals ahead 12-10. LSUE trailed 10-6 going into the fifth inning before scoring 10 unanswered runs.
The Baldwin sisters would start the come from behind victory, producing a pair of runs in the fifth.
Maci Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) brought home
Katie Salling (Opelousas, LA, Parkview Baptist HS) on a sacrifice fly, followed by a RBI double by
Mari Baldwin (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS).
LSUE added four more runs in the seventh inning after taking the lead, highlighted by
Sina Ballew (Pineville, LA, Buckeye HS) belting a pinch hit two-run double. The Bengals would score in every inning but the first, logging 17 hits on the game.
Salling would pace the LSUE attack with a 4-for-4 game, driving in a pair of runs and scoring three runs. Chretien added a 3-hit outing with the Baldwin sisters both notching multi-hit games.
Allie Bland (Gramercy, LA, Lutcher HS) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless relief inning.
Landri Campbell would help hold the win with the save, hurling two scoreless relief frames while scattering a pair of hits.
