Game 1 vs. Southern Arkansas University Tech – W, 8-0 (6 Innings)
A late surge by the LSUE offense and another jewel from Reagan Rios was the recipe for success as the Bengals upended SAU Tech 8-0 to open Monday's doubleheader.
The Bengals would not strike until the third inning, plating three runs in the frame as a fielder's choice, sacrifice fly and two-out
Kate Rills (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) RBI single put LSUE out in front.
LSUE used two errors in the fifth to score three more runs and get within striking distance of a mercy rule win. The Bengals snagged the shortened game in the sixth with a two-out two run single by Kirsten Lalonde.
The freshman trio of
Reagan Duty (Mont Belvieu, TX, Barbers Hill HS), Lalonde and Rills accounted for four of LSUE's eight hits and drove in four runs. Duty and
Katie Salling (Baton Rouge, LA, Parkview Baptist HS) each had multi-hit games.
Not to be outdone, Reagan Rios turned in another sterling performance after a no-hitter in her debut. Rios struck out 12 batters while issuing just one hit and four walks in the victory.
Game 2 vs. Southern Arkansas University Tech – W, 8-0 (6 Innings)
McKenna Howell tossed LSU Eunice's second no-hitter in as many days as the Bengals closed out their four-game series with SAU Tech with an 8-0 win in five innings.
Howell faced the minimum of 15 batters while issuing one walk in the seven-strikeout performance. Just one ball left the infield as
Rylie Tate (Columbia, LA, Caldwell Parish HS) snagged a fifth inning pop up.
All the offense LSUE needed would come in the opening inning as
Sara Roussel (Luling, LA, Hahnville HS) scored on one of four SAU Tech errors and a Katie Salling RBI single.
Gabrielle Huetter (Magnolia, TX, Magnolia HS) extended the lead to 3-0 in the third with a line drive to right to score Howell.
LSUE would trigger the run-rule in the fifth as the Bengals scored four runs with two outs. Kate Rills ended the game with a two-out two-run single before Huetter, Howell and Reagan Duty would produce RBIs. Howell enjoyed a three-hit outing and was joined by Roussel and Huetter with multi-hit games.
