LSUE Baseball To Honor 2006 National Champs On Saturday

EUNICE, La. – The LSU Eunice Baseball team that started it all will be on the Cajun Prairie this Saturday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Bengals' first National Championship during the 2006 season.  The 2006 team will be honored before the start of the Saturday, April 25 doubleheader against Delgado that is scheduled to start at 2:00PM.
 
Members of the 2006 National Championship will be recognized on the field prior to the game with a special first pitch.  Fans are encouraged to come celebrate this milestone anniversary with team, who were also inducted into the LSUE Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.
 
The 2006 team went 52-11 during the season, fighting through the elimination bracket at the NJCAA Division II World Series in Millington, Tennessee to clinch the school's first ever National Championship.  The Bengals defeated Grand Rapids Community College twice in the finals, capped by a 3-0 victory in a winner-take-all game.  Most Valuable Player Brett Durand threw a complete game shutout in the win.
 
LSU Eunice Baseball has won eight national championships in total, the most recent coming during the 2024 season.
