Box Score POPLARVILLE, MS. -- The LSU Eunice Lady Bengal Softball team survived a late rally by Pearl River to win 13-11 here Friday in the first game of the Pearl River Tournament.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs and four-point lead the LSUE Lady Bengal softball look to be headed to an easy win, but Pearl River's Brooke Barnes hit a two-run home run that pulled the Lady Wildcats to within two runs of tying the game. The next batter hit a fly ball out to right field, and LSUE made the easy out to pick up their eleventh win of the year.
Pearl River scored first in the contest when and a runner scored on an error. LSUE responded with four runs.
Pearl River tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the second inning and then took the lead in the third. In the fourth inning,
Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS) double and
Emily Henderson's (North Desoto HS) home run drove in four runs. The Lady Wildcats then regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
In the top of the sixth inning, LSUE scored five runs off six hits and held on to win 13-11.
Rebecca Skains, who leads the nation in doubles and hits finished the game 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored.
Jordan Bishop (Newton County HS) was 3-for-5 with three RBIs two runs scored.
Jeannemarie Angelle (Cecilia HS) was 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Savanna Cates (Hargrave HS) picked up her seventh win of the year. She pitched 3.2 innings and struck out 5 Lady Wildcat batters.
