EUNICE -- LSU Eunice used four home runs to come from behind to defeat Lake Land Community College 12-3 in five innings here Friday.
Home runs by Bobbi Smith, Emily Henderson, Rae'Shaun Malancon and Haley Godeaux helped the Lady Bengals take the lead and mercy rule Lake Land.
Down 2-0 in the first after Lake Land's Kendra Gengebacher's home run drove in two runs, the Lady Bengals
Smith (West Ouachita HS) hit a home run in the to close within one run. Lakeland (1-1) would add another run in the third.
It was then all LSUE (6-1).
"We made a few adjustments, and we squared up a few," said Head Coach Andy Lee. "We've got a strong team this year, and I'm excited to see what they can do."
In the bottom of the inning, Smith scored on an error, and with two outs in the inning,
Henderson (North Desoto HS) hit a home run and drove in
Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS). Shortly afterward,
Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS) doubled to left field.
Jeannemarie Angelle (Cecilia HS) and
Hannah Vidallier (North Vermillion HS) scored.
In the fourth,
Savanna Cates (Hargrave HS) and the Lady Bengal defense held the Lakers scoreless, while the LSUE offense added three more runs when
Rae'Shaun Malancon (Ascension HS) hit a 3-run home run.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Godeaux (Cecilia HS) hit a walk-off 3-run home run to end the game 12-3.
Savanna Cates earned her fifth win of the season and the second of the day. She struck out four Lakers in five innings.
"I was really excited about the way Savanna Cates threw," said Lee. "She got two wins today, pitched tremendously for us, and we really need that after some injuries earlier this season.
Angelle and Smith lead the team in batting. Smith finished 2 for 2 with a RBI and three runs scored. Angelle scored two runs and had two hit at three at-bats.
Malancon and Godeaux each had 3 RBIs.
The Lady Bengals defeated Coffeyville (0-4) earlier Friday. LSUE will face off with Coffeyville again Saturday at 9 a.m. and Collin County at 3 p.m.
