LSU Eunice pitcher Abigail Leonards earned a complete-game win as the Lady Bengals grabbed an 8-4 win over Lamar State - Port Arthur Tuesday afternoon.
LSUE jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when
Haley Godeaux (Cecilia HS) walked and later scored on a hit by
Molly Wilson (Castor HS).
The Lady Bengals exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, begun when
Jeannemarie Angelle (Cecilia HS) reached on an error and scored on a double by
Savannah Lejeune (Catholic of Pointe Coupe HS).
Wilson singled to left field to score LeJeune,
Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS) ripped a RBI triple to right field.
Hannah Vidallier (North Vermillion HS) singled in Skains and
Bobbi Smith (West Ouachita HS) followed with a RBI double and scored on a passed ball to push the Lady Bengals ahead, 7-0.
Lamar State closed the gap to 7-1 in the top of the fifth when Kristen Moralez doubled to center and scored on a hit by Savana Guidry.
The Lady Bengals responded with a run in the bottom of the inning when LeJeune walked and pinch runner
Mary Guillory (St. Louis Catholic HS) stole second and later scored on Skains' double to center field.
The Lady Seahawks rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning sparked by a solo home run by Alexis Perez.
Ashley May reached on an error, Desiree Barrera singled and Moralez walked to load the bases.
Heidi Boudreaux singled in May, while Barrera scored on a fly out by Guidry to close the margin to 8-4.
Abigail Leonards (Iota HS) struck out six, walked two and allowed three earned runs on eight hits over seven innings.
Wilson and Skains both went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Lady Bengal offense.
