Lady Bengals Split with San Jac

HOUSTON -- The Lady Bengal softball team split with San Jacinto College here Tuesday 6-4 and 8-3 as LSU Eunice improves to 42-10 on the season and inches closer to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.

LSUE has four regular season games left, and all four games are against Baton Rouge Community College as the two teams trade of trips for doubleheaders up US 190 next week.  The teams will play May 3 in Baton Rouge and then in Eunice on May 7.   LSUE will then head to Mississippi to play in the Region 23 Tournament May 11-13.  The location will be determined by the winner of the MACJC conference.

In action against San Jacinto, the Lady Bengals swept the Wolves earlier in the month 7-6 and 9-2, but on the trip to Houston, LSUE had their hands full.

Game 1: LSUE 4, San Jacinto 6
In game one of the doubleheader, San Jac pulled out to a 6-1 lead in the first three innings.  While LSUE rallied in the final four innings, they fell short 4-6.

Molly Wilson's and Haley Godeaux's home runs were not enough to power LSUE over the Wolves.

Abigail Leonards (Iota HS) went the distance on the mound for the Lady Bengals, pitching six innings and striking out four batters.  Leonards threw 76 strikes on 108 pitches.

The shortstop, Wilson (Castor HS), finished 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.  Hannah Vidallier (North Vermillion HS) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Godeaux (Cecilia HS) was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.

Game 2: LSUE 8, San Jacinto 3
The Lady Bengals used a five-run third inning and some strong defensive play to seal their 42nd win of the year.  LSUE allowed only three runs on nine hits in the second game of the doubleheader.

Trailing 0-1 in the third inning, LSUE scored five runs in the third and took the lead for good.  San Jac would add a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but LSUE's hitters stayed hot, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Leonards earned the win.  She replaced Elizabeth Fontenot (Port Barre HS) in the sixth inning.  Fontenot pitched five innings and struck out three batters.

Emily Henderson (North Desoto HS) finished 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and two runs scored and a home run.  Jordan Bishop (Newton County HS) was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored, and Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS) was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.
