Lady Bengals Sweep BRCC

Box Score

BATON ROUGE -- After nearly two weeks off due to rain delays and schedule conflicts, the Lady Bengals finally got to play Tuesday in a doubleheader against Baton Rouge Community College, and the ladies didn't miss a beat returning to their winning ways.  LSU Eunice knocked off Baton Rouge, 5-3 and 8-7 to improve to 36-8 on the season.

Game 1 - LSUE 5, BRCC 3
The Lady Bengals wasted no time getting started in the opening game of the doubleheader.  Jeannemarie Angelle's double to center field in the first inning drove in Jordan Bishop (Newton County HS), and then Angelle (Cecilia HS) scored on an error by the Lady Bears.  Two walks later, Hannah Vidallier (North Vermillion HS) scored to put LSUE up 3-0.

LSUE added two more runs in the third inning off an Abigail Mondy (Lafayette HS) single and Darian Doucet (Sulphur HS) double.  Baton Rouge responded with three runs in the bottom of the third to pull within two runs.
It was then all defense.  Vidallier struck out two batters, and the Lady Bengals held Baton Rouge to just four hits and no runs.

Vidallier pitched 5. 1 innings and struck out four batters in earning the win for the Lady Bengals.

Game 2 - LSUE 8, BRCC 7
The Lady Bengals came from behind extra innings to win game two of the doubleheader 8-7.

Baton Rouge jumped out to a 5-0 start in by the third period, and LSUE chipped away at that lead the rest of the game.

In the fourth inning, Haley Godeaux (Cecilia HS) tripled and drove in Vidallier, and then Godeaux scored when Mima Doucet (Notre Dame HS) singled to left field, closing the gap to 5-2.

The Lady Bengal defense held BRCC to two three-and-out innings, and then Lakyn Wales' (Zachary HS) 3-run home run added the runs needed to tie the game at 5-5.

In the seventh inning, Godeaux singled and then stole second base and third base before scoring the go-ahead run off a Darian Doucet single. But Baton Rouge responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to force extra innings.

In the eighth, Angelle scored when Vidallier doubled to center, and the Lady Bengals added an insurance run in the end of the inning when Bishop scored off a Godueax sacrifice fly.  The Lady Bengals were up 8-6.

Baton Rouge made one last rally, scoring a run in the eighth, but LSU Eunice held on to pick up the win.

Abigail Leonards (Iota HS) picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Bengals.  She went the distance striking out four batters.
