BATON ROUGE -- The LSU Eunice Lady Bengals swept Baton Rouge Community College 7-3, 5-0 here Tuesday in a doubleheader. The two teams will face off again Sunday in the Lady Bengals last home games of the season.
Game 1: LSUE 7, BRCC 3
LSU Eunice had to come from behind late in the game to pick up their 43rd win of the season. Down 2-3 in the fourth inning, the Lady Bengals scored five runs in the final two innings to knock off Baton Rouge in the first game of the doubleheader.
In the sixth inning, the girls put runners on base and
Jeannemarie Angelle (Cecilia HS) pinching hitting for
Savannah Lejeune (Catholic of Pointe Coupe HS) singled to center field and drove in
Bobbi Smith (West Ouachita HS) who tied the game at 3-3.
Molly Wilson (Castor HS) then doubled, scoring
Sierra Gasca (West Ouachita HS) and Angelle.
LSUE sealed the win in the seventh inning when
Hannah Vidallier (North Vermillion HS) singled and allowing
Emily Henderson (North Desoto HS) to score and advanced runners into scoring position. LeJeune hit a single to center that drove in
Maleah Saucedo (Orangefield HS).
Abigail Leonards (Iota HS) picked up the win. She pitched seven innings, struck out three, and allowed one earned run.
Wilson and Vidallier were each 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Smith finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Haley Godeaux (Cecilia HS) was 2-for-3.
Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS) hit a home run at her first at bat and finished 1-for-4 with one run and 1 RBI.
Game 2: LSUE 5, BRCC 0
The Lady Bengals batters worked slow and steady in the final game of the doubleheader and scored runs in the second, third and fourth inning while their defense held Baton Rouge to only four hits and no runs.
After going up by one run in the second inning, Wilson started the third inning off with a triple and Skains drove her in on the very next at bat. Skains then was able to score when Emily Henderson doubled to center field, giving the Lady Bengals a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, the Lady Bengals added two more runs to their total when
Ally Howard (Live Oak HS) singled and drove in Angelle. Wilson then singled, and
Mima Doucet (Notre Dame HS) scored.
It was all defense after that. Both teams were held scoreless.
Henderson was 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Wilson finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run.
Elizabeth Fontenot (Port Barre HS) earned another win for the Lady Bengals. She pitched seven innings, struck out seven and allowed no earned runs.
