Box Score COLUMBUS, Georgia – Second-ranked LSU Eunice exploded for six runs in the second inning as the Lady Bengals cruised to a 9-0 win over Sinclair Community College in the opening game of the NFCA Lead-Off Classic.
LSUE scored a run in the top of the first when
Molly Wilson (Castor HS) doubled to left field and crossed home plate on a single by
Jordan Bishop (Newton County HS).
The Lady Bengals pushed the game open in the top of the second, begun when
Haley Godeaux (Cecilia HS) reached on an error and scored when
Emily Henderson (North Desoto HS) doubled to left field, who later scored on another Sinclair miscue.
Mima Doucet (Notre Dame HS) walked, stole second and third before scoring when
Jeannemarie Angelle (Cecilia HS) doubled to centerfield as LSUE moved ahead, 4-0.
Angelle scored on an error, while Wilson singled and scored on a single by
Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS) for a 6-0 LSUE advantage.
Skains later scored when
Bobbi Smith (West Ouachita HS) singled as the Lady Bengals moved ahead, 7-0.
LSUE added a run in the top of the third when
Abigail Mondy (Lafayette HS) walked and scored on a hit by
Ally Howard (Live Oak HS).
The Lady Bengals moved ahead 9-0 in the top of the fourth when Doucet earned a walk, stole second and scored on a hit by
Savannah Lejeune (Catholic of Pointe Coupe HS)
Elizabeth Fontenot (Port Barre HS) earned the win as she struck out three, walked one and allowed three hits over four innings.
Wilson pitched one inning with two walks but the Lady Bengal defense stiffened and preserved the shutout.
Wilson went 2-for-2 with a RBI and two runs scored to lead the Lady Bengal hitters, while Skains, Bishop, Howard and Smith all finished 1-for-2 with a RBI.
