MONROEVILLE, Alabama – Top-ranked LSU Eunice battled to a 13-7, 8-7 doubleheader sweep Thursday over Alabama Southern Community College.
In the opener, LSUE (25-5) exploded for six runs in the top of the first frame and held off the Lady Eagles for the win.
The surge began when
Emily Henderson (North Desoto HS) walked and scored on a hit by
Jordan Bishop (Newton County HS).
Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS) doubled and later
Molly Wilson (Castor HS) doubled in Skains for a 2-0 lead.
Bishop scored on a passed ball, while Wilson crossed home plate on a double by
Bobbi Smith (West Ouachita HS) as the Lady Bengals pushed ahead, 4-0.
Mima Doucet (Notre Dame HS) reached on an error that allowed Smith to score for a 5-0 advantage.
Doucet stole second, advanced on an error and then scored on a hit by
Hannah Vidallier (North Vermillion HS) as the Lady Bengals held a comfortable six-run lead.
LSUE added a run in the top of the second as Bishop singled and scored on a fielder's choice by
Jeannemarie Angelle (Cecilia HS).
The Lady Bengals pushed ahead 8-0 with a run in the top of the third inning when Vidallier reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a single by Skains.
Alabama Southern scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 8-4, but the Lady Bengals got a run back in the next inning as Doucet singled and scored on a double by Vidallier.
LSUE added four insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning begun when Doucet reached on an error, stole second, advanced on another miscue and then scored on a passed ball.
Abigail Mondy (Lafayette HS) singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Skains.
Ally Howard (Live Oak HS) walked, advanced on a passed ball and later scored on a single by Bishop as the Lady Bengals led 11-4.
Skains scored when Abigail Leonards grounded out and LSUE held a 13-4 lead.
The Lady Eagles rallied for three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning but left the bases loaded as LSUE held on for the 13-7 victory.
Vidallier earned the win as she struck out one and allowed four earned runs on six hits over six innings.
Abigail Leonards (Iota HS) grabbed the save as she struck out one, walked three and allowed three earned runs on three hits over 1.1 innings.
Skains and Bishop both went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Vidallier finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored for the Lady Bengals.

In the finale, both teams combined for seven runs in the first inning before the defenses stiffened for seven more runs over the last four innings as LSUE held on for the 8-7 win.
The Lady Bengals opening rally began when Emily Henderson walked, stole second and scored on a hit to centerfield by Darby Bishop.
Bobbi Smith walked before Haley Godeaux singled in two runs to push LSUE ahead, 3-0.
Godeaux stole second, advanced on a hit by Vidallier and scored on an error as the Lady Bengals led 4-0.
Alabama Southern responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Lady Bengals moved ahead 5-3 in the top of the third when Smith singled, advanced on an error an scored on a sacrifice by Vidallier.
The Lady Eagles answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning aided by two LSUE errors as Alabama Southern forced a 5-5 tie.
The Lady Bengals regrouped to score two runs in the top of the fourth, begun when Mondy walked, stole second, advanced on an error and scored on a sacrifice by Skains.
Henderson walked stole second and later scored on Bishop's double to left field as LSUE grabbed a 7-5 advantage.
The Lady Bengals added a decisive insurance run in the top of the fifth as Godeaux singled, stole second and scored as Vidallier reached on an error.
Alabama Southern battled back with two runs in the bottom of the inning, aided by three LSUE errors before the Lady Bengals forced the final two outs to seal the win.
Elizabeth Fontenot (Port Barre HS)earned the win as she walked one and allowed one earned run on five hits over three innings.
Savanna Cates (Hargrave HS) pitched the final two innings as she allowed one earned run on three hits.
LSUE committed eight errors in the win, 10 on the day while rapping 21 runs on 23 hits and leaving 14 on base in the doubleheader.
Bishop finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Godeaux went 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored and Vidallier went 1-for-2 with three RBI.
