LSUE Knocks Off San Jacinto 7-3, 9-2

Box Score

EUNICE -- LSU Eunice Lady Bengals took advantage of a sixth-inning fielder's choice to come from behind in the first game of a doubleheader with San Jacinto and then dominated the second game to sweep the series 7-6 and 9-2 here Wednesday.

Game 1: LSUE 7, San Jacinto 6
LSUE jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning but watched that lead disappear in the second inning when San Jacinto scored four runs.  The Coyotes add a pair of the runs in the fourth to go up 6-3.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Rebecca Skains (West Ouachita HS) 3-run home run tied the game up 6-6.

The Lady Bengals held the Coyotes hitless in the fifth and sixth inning and added the winning run after a San Jacinto's fielder's choice allowed Mary Guillory (St. Louis Catholic HS) to score.

Skains led the team in batting.  She finished 2-for-4 with two hits and all five of the team's RBIs.

Elizabeth Fontenot (Port Barre HS) etched another win.  She pitched seven innings and struck out three.

Game 2: LSUE 9, San Jacinto 2
The Lady Bengals used two 3-run innings to dominate the second game of the doubleheader with the Coyotes.  LSUE scored three runs in the second and sixth inning to put the game out of reach of San Jacinto.

Molly Wilson (Castor HS) scored in the first inning on a passed ball, and then in the second inning, the Lady Bengals added scored from Haley Godeaux (Cecilia HS) off a fielder's choice and Wilson when Skain doubled.  Skains then scored off a Jordan Bishop (Newton County HS) double to center field.

San Jacinto added their only runs of the game in the top of the third, helped by Eunice errors.

The Lady Bengals added another run in the third and in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.

In the sixth inning, Skains hit her second home run of the day to spark a 3-run inning.  Mima Doucet (Notre Dame HS) and Darian Doucet (Sulphur HS) each scored in the inning to give the Lady Bengals the 9-2 win.

Skains was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored.  Wilson finished 1-for-4 with a RBI.  Bishop was 2-for-3 while M. Doucet was 2-for-2.  Emily Henderson (North Desoto HS) was 2-for-4.

Abigail Leonards (Iota HS) picked up the win for the Lady Bengals.  She faced 27 batters in seven innings.
